Training on Rural Housing held at Jorhat

From our CorrespondentJORHAT, Feb 23: The North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat and Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) of Roorkee, Uttarakhand jointly organised a two day Training-cum-Demonstration programme on "Appropriate Rural Housing Technologies" under CSIR-RSWNET Rural development programme and Construction agencies, Engineers, Executives, NGOs and Gram Panchayats to adopt suitable technologies for the construction of rural houses. The training includes the Technology demonstration on Pre-cast Stone Masonary and Cement Concrete Block, Pre-cast Roofing component namely planks and joists, L-panels, Brick panels, Pre-cast concrete and Ferrocement Products, Earth Quake Resistant Features, improved Mud-house Technologies namely plinth protection, non-erodable mud plaster, fire retardant thatch roof and rural Sanitation and Waste –Water Disposal system. The faculties for the training were drawn from NEIST– Jorhat and CBRI, Roorkee. A total of 47 participants including executives, assistant executives and junior engineers of DRDA, different development blocks at Jorhat and adjoining localities, Jorhat sub-division (Irrigation department), department of civil engineering, POWIET, PHE division, Axom Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission, PWD, GE army, NEIST, Jorhat and SCSTE, Meghalaya participated in the training programme. The training was inaugurated by Dr PG Rao, Director of NEIST, Jorhat yesterday. In his speech, he emphasized on the need for organizing such type of trainings in all the other States of the North East Region associating CBRI of Roorkee, local science and technology departments and Rural housing agencies.
