: BONGAIGAON, Feb 18: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) apart from guarding the Indo-Bhutan international border is presently engaged in various welfare activities particularly for the people living in the remote and far-flung areas where medicines and other facilities are not available.
With this mission, Area Organizer of the SSB, Kokrajhar organized a three-day-long Samajik Chetna Abhiyan (SCA) basically on the theme of national integration, communal harmony, evil effects of drugs, health and hygiene and others.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Majendra Narzary, MLA, Gossaigaon at Saraibil Community Hall on February 12 at 11.30 am which was attended by local leaders, students and a huge crowd among others. Sulekha Das, Area Organizer, Kokrajhar and other officers including a medical officer and a veterinary doctor also attended the SCA function.
During the publicity drive, the SSB covered Sarabil and it’s surrounding villages, and with the help of SSB doctor and paramedical staff treated 353 patients and distributed medicines free of cost. Again, with the assistance of SSB veterinary doctor and para-veterinary staff treated and vaccinated ailing cattle and distributed veterinary medicines free of cost.
The three-day-long programme was also marked by photo exhibition, cultural programme, volleyball competition and other games for school children apart from film shows and others.
The closing function of SSB SCA was held at Saraibil Community Hall on February 14, while Rava Raja of Saraibil PHC graced the function as the chief guest. Prizes were also given away to winners of various competitions. TP Mang, Circle Organizer, SSB Saraibil delivered the vote of thanks. This was stated in a press release.
