Counterfeit notes circulation in and around Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Feb 26: The vacuum created by the arrest of the counterfeit currency notes kingpin, Ranjit Kakoti at Guwahati proved to be an opportunity to another gang operating from Arunachal Pradesh. In no time this gang has been able to flood vast areas of Upper Asom with huge quantity of high denomination counterfeit currency notes.

It is learnt that one Bijit of Mohanbari area has been acting as the main agent of this gang. Offering substantial commissions, he was able to recruit a number of young persons in the Dibrugarh District.

The Dibrugarh Police has been able to arrest a number of persons from the Khowang and Dibrugarh areas on charges of dealing in counterfeit money. But as soon as these persons are released on bail, they go back to their illegal activities, as suspected by the Dibrugarh police.
On the other hand, it is learnt that one Dutta of Nitaipukhuri area and another one Rafique of Sonari are instrumental in the circulation of fake currency notes in the Sivasagar district. There are also allegation that one high ranking police official of the district is also involved in such illegal activities.
