Gogoi inaugurates rural electrification scheme

JORHAT, Feb 16: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Project for Jorhat district at a function held at Vidyut Bhavan here this evening. As many as 714 villages under eight development blocks of the district will be covered under the project. Power connections will be made available to a total 36,041 below-poverty line families. The total sum earmarked for the district stands at Rs 37.19 crore.Speaking at the inauguration function, the Chief Minister said that no development was possible without the easy availability of power. The per capita consumption of power is the index of the development of a State, he added.“As power is the key to the solution of all problems, the State Government has accorded top priority to improving generation and transmission,” Gogoi maintained. He claimed that the Congress Government has improved the infrastructural scene in the State during its tenures. The Chief Minister sought the cooperation of the people in upgrading infrastructure. The function was chaired by Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Ms LS Changsan also addressed the gathering. Managing Director of Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Compnay Limited DK Dutta delivered the welcome address. Dutta said that the project would be completed within 18 months.Press adviser to the Chief Minister DK Borah, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, Titabor SDO (Civil) Kavita Padmanabhan and other top ASEB officials were present at the function.Earlier, the Chief Minister attended the platinum jubilee function of Central Club. He advanced a sum of Rs 5 lakh for its development.
