NEW DELHI, Feb 12 – The North East MPs’ Forum has decided to recommend nomination of legendary singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika for the coveted Bharat Ratna Award.
Talking to this newspaper from Gangtok over telephone, general secretary of the Forum, Biren Baishya said a meeting of the Forum held on Friday resolved to nominate the Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee for the highest civilian honour.
A delegation of the Forum is going to call on the Prime Minister during the ensuing Budget Session of the Parliament to formally present the memorandum, Baishya said.
The meeting of the Forum attended by MPs of all the eight North Eastern States further resolved to focus on infrastructure connectivity. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Water Resources, Vincent H Pala, besides chairman Mukut Mithi, Paban Singh Ghatowar, among others.
