Kohima, Feb. 18: The North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur, is organising a two-day South East Asia and North East India Festival at the centre from March 1, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.

The director of the centre, Hekali Zhimomi, said the festival, that will begin at 5pm, would feature artistes from several South East Asian countries and the Northeast.

Cultural troupes from Thailand, Bali, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland will perform during the opening ceremony.

Troupes from Cambodia, Java, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Assam and Manipur will perform on March 2.

Zhimomi said the festival would provide an excellent opportunity to educate students on the culture of South East Asian countries and the Northeast.

The centre has invited students from various schools to witness the performances.

A large gathering from all over the Northeast, including a host of officials, is expected.

“We will ensure a good turnout for the festival,” an official of the centre said.

Altogether 12 cultural troupes will participate in the festival. On March 1, the adviser to the art and culture department, Deo Nukhu, will inaugurate the festival. The centre is also organising Children’s Film festival 2010 from February 26 to March 1 in collaboration with the Children’s Film Society of India. Several foreign movies will be screened during the festival, officials of the centre said.
