AXS calls for xatriya study

DIBRUGARH, Feb 22: Only a scientific explanation of xatriya life philosophy can attract the younger generation to the culture. Only then can the injustice and immorality in present day society be removed.

This was said by the Xatradhikar of Auniati Xatra, Dr Pitambar Deba Goswami, in his capacity as the guest of honour during the open session held on the last day of the Axom Xatradhikar Sanmilan (AXS) in Dibrugarh on Sunday.

Dr Goswami said that the training of a decent life is received in xatras and the lifestyle of people is inherent in xatriya culture. Xatras and naamghars are the seats where men and women seek spiritual enlightenment, he added.

Earlier, the Xatradhikar of Dakhinpat Xatra, Nani Gopal Deba Goswami, inaugurated the open session that was chaired by the president of Axom Xatra Mahasabha (AXM) and Xatradhikar of Charing Jokai Xatra, Bhadrakrishna Goswami.

In his presidential address, the AXM president emphasized on going ahead following the path shown by Sankardeva and only then can xatras, society and the community survive. He stressed on forging in an united manner and go beyond just preservation of ancient texts.
A souvenir was released on the occasion by litterateur Ganesh Chandra Kurmi.

The Xatradhikars of Natun Kamalabari Xatra, Garmur Xatra and Dinjoy Mayamora Xatra, Narayan Chandra Goswami, Harideb Goswami and Jogadananda Chandra Goswami respectively, the president of AXX, Dr Nagen Saikia, and Dibrugarh MLA, Prasanta Phukon, were present in the meeting.

A cultural procession was taken out in the morning. The SP of Dibrugarh, Abhijit Bora, flagged it off.
