Assam hosts rock concert to encourage youth to join Indian armed forces

Guwahati, Feb 16(ANI): A rock concert was recently organized in Assam to encourage youth to join the Indian armed forces.

The concert, organized by the Rock Rolla Music Society in Guwahati, also paid tribute to Late Captain Jintu Gogoi, a Vir Chakra recipient of the 17th Garwal Rifles.

Gogoi sacrificed his life for the country during the 1999 Kargil War, and back home in Assam, he became an instant household name.

Saurav, a member of the Rock Rolla Music Society, said that in today's time the youth are mostly into corporate jobs because of the lucrative offers that they get. It is the reason why they felt the need to organize such a concert.

"The reason why we chose the cause is basically that our youths today want to join multinational companies or they want to start their own ventures. But very few people are joining the armed forces. A gap has been created. Basically we spread an awareness among our youth through this festival...," said Saurav.

"Now things are looking up and previously the normal people had different opinion about the army. Now it is changing, everything is changing right now and it is changing for better....If I may say then definitely from where we see, five years down the line, I can see it will be better," Ujjain Baruah said.

Renowned rock bands like Bhayanak Maut, East India Company and local bands like Silver Tears, Hammer Head, Lucid Recess, Sunday Morning and many more participated in the concert. (ANI)
