Gogoi moves Centre on price rise

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has sought the intervention of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure smooth flow of PDS items to Assam to arrest price rise of essential commodities. In a letter to the Union Agriculture Minister, Gogoi expressed concern over price rise of essential commodities and urged him to ensure sufficient stock of PDS items in the depots of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in the State to arrest the rise in prices of essential commodities in the open market.

Meanwhile, in a separate letter to the Railway Minister, Gogoi said that the Railways should ensure timely supply of rakes as per the requirement of the FCI and trade bodies to ensure availability of all the essential commodities. ASSAM TRIBUNE
