Trinamool Cong final list released

Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, March 25 – The Assam Pradesh Trinamool Congress today released the final list of 14 candidates for the phase-II Assembly elections. The party also announced that the official candidates for Bilasipara West Constituency (constituency No. 26) would be Hatem Ali Choudhury, and for Lumding (constituency No. 92) the new official candidate would be Uma Bhowmick.

K D Singh, TMC Rajya Sabha MP and in-charge of the north-eastern States, while releasing the final list, said, “It is indeed a sad story that the red-tapist administrative system is so strong that often, the poor find it hard even to voice their grievances, let alone having any hope of solutions or justice. The fundamental rights that were guaranteed to every Indian citizen in the Constitution are being routinely and callously denied to those who need it most.”

‘For the People, By the People, of the People’ is a basic directive of the Indian Constitution. But with the passage of time, selfish interests took over and created circumstances and systems that are anti-poor and anti-underprivileged. Today a large number of people live below the poverty line and face hunger and starvation. Those who lack food to feed their children, scorn the talk of other ‘basic’ rights. It seems nobody has compassion and empathy for the poor any more, and all privileged sections are bent upon keeping the status quo, forcing these hapless masses to a life of inhuman slavery,” he said.

“The educated youth of the poor live a destitute life in the face of continued unemployment and poverty, and are forced to return to the lowest form of physical labour, which is so unfortunate,” Singh rued.
