GUWAHATI, March 20 – Gauhati Law Reports, a 30-year-old law journal from the North-east, went online on the occasion of its pearl jubilee celebration recently.
The occasion was graced by a confluence of legal luminaries, including Justice Dalveer Bhandari of the Supreme Court, who launched the online edition of the journal.
Lauding the efforts of the team of Gauhati Law Reports, Justice Bhandari said that it required Herculean effort to regularly bring out a law journal that is characterized by accuracy of facts, quality
of presentation and timely publication.
He added that going online is another milestone in the journey of the law journal.
In a seminar organized on the occasion, there was a unanimous call from the legal experts for a judiciary closer to the hearts of people.
Speaking in a deliberation on the topic ‘Good governance-need for a change in approach of judiciary’, Justice Bhandari stated that the huge arrears in courts at all levels had become a major hurdle in the way of justice delivery system.
Justice Amitava Roy of Gauhati High Court, taking part in the deliberations, said that judiciary had a key role to play to keep under check the self-serving nature of man that often induces misuse of State power for personal gain.
Justice IA Ansari of Gauhati High Court said that justice delivery system was not only meant for maintaining law and order but also to ensure good governance in a welfare State, a press statement mentioned.
