OIL to display Assamese sign boards

DIBRUGARH, June 30: Sign boards and name plates in different offices, OCS and GCS of OIL at Duliajan will now see the use of the Assamese language along with English and Hindi. The assurance was made by the authorities of the oil major at a meeting with representatives of AASU in presence of administrative officials at Duliajan on June 29. The announcement comes quick on the heels of a recent confrontation between CISF personnel and members of the Duliajan unit of AASU after the latter were stopped while trying to blacken the sign boards. OIL authorities said that names in Assamese will be displayed within a month and assured the students’ organization that applications written in the language will be accepted. They also revealed that the guilty CISF jawan has been punished.
