Can the BJP-less AGP now resurrect itself?
The regional AGP, Assam’s main opposition party, has at last thought it prudent, and most importantly, gathered the courage, to snap ties with the BJP. This alliance, which the AGP always thought would serve as a marriage of convenience and could be used as an effective weapon to beat the Congress with, have miserably failed right from the start to boost the regional party. In fact, the AGP’s alliance with the BJP sent out several wrong or confusing signals all these years: first, it gave an impression that the regional party was trying to ride piggyback on the BJP to get some respite from the Congress onslaught since the 1998 Lok Sabha elections in the State
